Kurgo’s Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Smart Harness has all the features of our standard harness, with the added benefit of Kurgo’s innovative Nesting Buckles. The all-steel Nesting Buckle system is based on the time-tested harnesses of rock climbers and linesmen. The Nesting Buckles take a minute to learn, but are very easy to use. If you make frequent trips in the car with your dog and are looking for a crash-tested harness for him, this is the harness to get.
The harness is quick and easy to put on; simply slip it over your dog’s head and then clip it around the midsection. The five different adjustments provide nearly a custom fit, and the chest pad makes sure that even if Fido misbehaves on the walk or in the car he can be controlled. Available in black or red.
Testing Procedure (View video in 'Videos' tab above):
The Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Smart Harness with steel Nesting Buckles has been tested in three ways. It has been tensile strength tested, dynamically tested using a static line test and finally crash tested using a sled test. The harness is designed as a safety harness, not a converted walking harness. The design, construction and testing provide the best protection while riding, turning, and stopping and in extreme situations.
The videos below depict a 35lb dog traveling at 30 miles per hour, recorded at an accredited University test facility. The unrestrained black and white dog is for comparison purposes, these are toy dogs weighted for the test - no animals were used in this video. The top video shows the force from the side angle while the bottom video shows the aerial view. Double click to replay the videos.

I did a lot of research on dog seatbelts before I went with Kurgo. These guys are the best for the most affordable cost and I am really pleased with their product!
First and foremost they are one of the few on the market that are actually crash tested! The quality is very apparent in the stitching and the steal buckles. I thought the nested buckles would be confusing but they are super easy to use and I actually like them better than the clipping ones because they don't get caught in my dogs hair or risk pinching his skin if I clip it wrong.
Second, it fits great. I was worried because my dog was smack in the middle of an extra small and a small and I thought the fit wouldn't work. But I went with the small because I know it's easier to make it smaller, but you can never make it bigger and it fits like a glove!
Third, you don't have to bend your dogs leg to step them into the harness. Just slide the neck loop over the head and the back end fastens on both sides so you don't have to put a leg through like you do with some harnesses.
Forth, I love the front ring for walking! Our dog is still undergoing training stop pulling on walks, so we only use front attaching harnesses for walking. With our old seatbelt we had to switch harnesses every time we got in and out of the car. The front ring gives us an easy way to walk him to and from the car. No harness switch necessary! We've even started using it in place of our regular walking harness and we like it better because it doesn't slide around as much.
Finally, the customer service is spectacular! I ordered this direct from the site and I noticed that after a couple days, my order seemed to be stuck. I sent just one email to their support address and someone got back to me that same day! They said they were so sorry, it was in fact stuck and they would ship it out that day via overnight mail (no extra cost to me.) Woo hoo! But that's not all...unfortunately something happened that cut off my apartment number and when I checked the UPS tracking the next day they said they were sending it back to the shipper as a result. I tried to just give them my apartment number but it was too late. I again emailed Kurgo support to let them know of my trouble. This time, I didn't get a response, but I did get my harness in the mail the following day and it included a free travel bowl to boot. My other package that had the missing apartment number was still on its way back to them via UPS so they didn't even wait to see if they got it back before sending out another product. That is really quality service right there and it shows they care! As someone who works in customer service, anyone can handle an order that goes smoothly, but it takes a great company to manage the mistakes with ease!
Secure your dog with Kurgo! You will not be disappointed!

I love the changes you've made to this harness. It's easy to fit, to get on and off the dog and to attach to the seat belt. All that means that even my husband will use it routinely. The front ring is a very nice addition to use when walking with my dogs.

This my third harness for a growing dog, all three were very good. When getting this last one I decided to get the harness with steel buckles because my dog is getting very big and may break the plastic buckles. The harness is easy to put on after you get use to how it buckles on and off. My only issue is that I my dog will out grow it and I got the largest one 80+ Ibs. My dog is a mastiff rott mix 7 months old now and already100lbs. I hope the harness will still fit him if he gets to be 175lbs. It's also very nice that the harness comes with a lifetime warranty.

I got two Tru Fit Harnesses (enhanced strength) for my dogs who are rescue mutts that like to pull when we go on walks. I was looking for safety and found these online. I'm sure I measured correctly, yet the harnesses were too small. And they aren't big dogs. I had to pay for the shipping cost to return/exchange them for extra large. The harnesses are not easy to get on wiggly happy pups, but they seem sturdy. Guess we'll see if the larger size fits.

the tru-fit smart harness is the best harness I have ever used. the metal buckles are genus in the way they work and can not come undone. I have a Malinois and his control and protection is my main concern and the harness gives it to me and will give it to you

I began using the harness on my dog this past week. It works well so far. It was a little tricky to adjust (material doesn't slide easily along the buckles) and luckily my pup will wait for me to slide the buckles through the slots (this takes a little practice) when putting it on or taking it off. Using it attached to a seat belt, I have to say that my seatbelts do not stay in locked position, making it easy for my dog to stretch the seat belt out and reach the front seat (not really restrained). I also used the looping function (loop the short lead around the belt) but that didn't give my dog much room to move to lay down. I purchased the zip line to make traveling a bit easier - that has it's own leash attachment. I believe these two items should be sold as a set (with perhaps a discount for buying them together). Overall really good products.

This is our third Harness and it is the first one our dog actually seems to like. Fits him perfectly and is more durable than the others due to the metal buckles.

Bought this harness, size L, to replace other brand XL harness shepherd puppy outgrew. Extremely adjustable, fits my girl like a dream. Seatbelt attachment works well, flat fit buckles are really easy to use, and she still has room to grow in to it. She wears without complaint on hikes, walks, to the beach, and on a 20+ hour car ride. Have been recommending this harness to everyone now who notices her wearing it.

Feel this is the best car harness on the market. Had done a lot of research on car harness's before purchasing and wanted the steel buckles and this was the only one I could find on the market. Always want my dog to be safe travelling in the car.

I bought the large size for my 46 pound lab puppy. It fits well and has room for her to grow. The first time I tried to use it in the car I put the seat belt though the harness loop. Within a few minutes she had managed to release the seat belt and was in the front seat. The next thing I tried was to attach D-rings to each end of some nylon webbing and attach the D-rings to the two child seat rings on the rear dashboard, after slipping the webbing through the harness loop. With the rear seat folded down, she is able to sit, lie, and walk a little to the right and left, but is still safely restrained. She is eager to get into her harness and go for a car ride and I like knowing she is safe in the back.
