Kurgo’s Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Smart Harness with Steel Nesting Buckles
Kurgo’s Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Smart Harness has all the features of our standard harness, with the added benefit of Kurgo’s innovative Nesting Buckles. The all-steel Nesting Buckle system is based on the time-tested harnesses of rock climbers and linesmen. The Nesting Buckles take a minute to learn, but are very easy to use. If you make frequent trips in the car with your dog and are looking for a crash-tested harness for him, this is the harness to get.
The harness is quick and easy to put on; simply slip it over your dog’s head and then clip it around the midsection. The five different adjustments provide nearly a custom fit, and the chest pad makes sure that even if Fido misbehaves on the walk or in the car he can be controlled. Available in black or red.
Testing Procedure (View video in 'Videos' tab above):
The Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Smart Harness with steel Nesting Buckles has been tested in three ways. It has been tensile strength tested, dynamically tested using a static line test and finally crash tested using a sled test. The harness is designed as a safety harness, not a converted walking harness. The design, construction and testing provide the best protection while riding, turning, and stopping and in extreme situations.
The videos below depict a 35lb dog traveling at 30 miles per hour, recorded at an accredited University test facility. The unrestrained black and white dog is for comparison purposes, these are toy dogs weighted for the test - no animals were used in this video. The top video shows the force from the side angle while the bottom video shows the aerial view. Double click to replay the videos.

A friend's experience of being rear ended with her dog in the back seat
(and then on the dashboard, and then on the floor) made me think. My dogs
have good car manners and stay in their "spot" in the back, but even the
best training won't keep your dog safe in an accident. I tried several
different types of dog seat belts before settling on the Kurgo Tru-Fit
Smart Harness. Here's what makes it different from the others I tried.
*1. Safety tested and secure.* It's not just a walking harness with a seat
belt clip. This thing is extremely well made, with quality hardware and a
comfortable, padded chest panel designed to restrain a dog without undue
stress on the body. There are two options for placing the chest strap where
it won't rub under their arms.
*2. Easy to get on and off* - so it's no hassle to actually USE it. It has
multiple adjustment points so you can size it to fit your dog just right,
and then just slip it over her head and fasten the buckles.
*3. Doubles as a regular walking harness.* You can attach the leash at the
back or the chest, which is great if your dog pulls while walking. Some of
the other car harnesses I looked at had heavy, complicated hardware or
overlapping panels to secure the harness on the dog or into the car. Fine
for sitting in the car, maybe, but awkward anywhere else. The Kurgo harness
is so comfortable and versatile we use it as our go-to harness even when
we're not going to be in the car.

We love our new harness and tether system for our crazy standard poodle. She is doing much better riding in the car without running all over. The harness and tether are well made and fit our dog well. Thank you for a great product

This is a really great harness. Love the fact that my young pup is safe when we go on rides. Plus,it's a joy walking him it in it and it's so easy to use, not bulky like I thought it would be.

Very sturdy & high quality, and it fits true to measurements. A little tricky to figure out & tighten though.

As many have said, the harness takes some getting used to - putting the buckles into the straps correctly. But it is worth learning how and not allowing yourself to get frustrated in your effort to put the harness on quickly. It is great having a D-ring on the front and the back - and being able to use this harness to tether my dog in the car, and then take him out and walk him. The harness is well made, the straps are all banded (no loose curly-Qs) and it looks very "handsome" on my dog. But most of all is the safety factor. No plastic straps here. Good job, Kurgo. BTW - The Amazon item like this does NOT have the D-ring on both sides according to the picture. So buy from Kurgo directly!

I love this harness! It lives up to the description! I am happy knowing that my dog is safe and can ride with me in the car any time! Give it a 2 paws up!

I have a 100lb lab/shepherd mix who is very deep chested. This harness just wouldn't fit him through the chest so it has unfortunately been returned.
The nesting buckles were really unique and seemed very secure, and the harness was certainly well made. If only it came in a size larger! For now, we'll use Kurgo's direct to seatbelt teather with his other harness and hope to never have the opportunity to crash test them.

I have two westies and thet cannot back out of this harness like they can from other harnesses. The new fasteners are great. Great adjustability makes them secure and comfortable.

We got this for our adopted lab mix, Daisy. I love it! It's very comforting to know she's safe while traveling. She can move well, sit, lay down, etc. It only took to the third car ride for her to get excited seeing it brought out. She knows that means time to go bye byes!

I am very pleased with this harness. It makes me feel much better about my dogs riding in the car than other harnesses have. I always wondered if plastic buckles would stand up to the force of an accident. The metal buckles are great. There is a bit of a learning curve when first using them, but once I figured them out, they are actually easier to fasten than the plastic ones. I recommend this harness without reservation!
