Kurgo’s Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Smart Harness with Steel Nesting Buckles
Kurgo’s Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Smart Harness has all the features of our standard harness, with the added benefit of Kurgo’s innovative Nesting Buckles. The all-steel Nesting Buckle system is based on the time-tested harnesses of rock climbers and linesmen. The Nesting Buckles take a minute to learn, but are very easy to use. If you make frequent trips in the car with your dog and are looking for a crash-tested harness for him, this is the harness to get.
The harness is quick and easy to put on; simply slip it over your dog’s head and then clip it around the midsection. The five different adjustments provide nearly a custom fit, and the chest pad makes sure that even if Fido misbehaves on the walk or in the car he can be controlled. Available in black or red.
Testing Procedure (View video in 'Videos' tab above):
The Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Smart Harness with steel Nesting Buckles has been tested in three ways. It has been tensile strength tested, dynamically tested using a static line test and finally crash tested using a sled test. The harness is designed as a safety harness, not a converted walking harness. The design, construction and testing provide the best protection while riding, turning, and stopping and in extreme situations.
The videos below depict a 35lb dog traveling at 30 miles per hour, recorded at an accredited University test facility. The unrestrained black and white dog is for comparison purposes, these are toy dogs weighted for the test - no animals were used in this video. The top video shows the force from the side angle while the bottom video shows the aerial view. Double click to replay the videos.

I am very pleased with this harness. It makes me feel much better about my dogs riding in the car than other harnesses have. I always wondered if plastic buckles would stand up to the force of an accident. The metal buckles are great. There is a bit of a learning curve when first using them, but once I figured them out, they are actually easier to fasten than the plastic ones. I recommend this harness without reservation!

I have two large Shiloh Shepherds and when we take them in the car, I like to have them tied down in the back of our van. It has bothered me that the harnesses that we have had in the past were built very strong except for the cheap plastic clip, that if a disaster should arise, would most likely fail. Your harnesses have metal clips, which although, are not the easiest to fasten, are great in that I don't believe that they would fail in an accident. I am very happy to have found your product.

Reading some of the reviews, I was a little apprehensive about being able to use the harness easily and effectively. Some reviewers made it sound like it would be really hard to learn how to use the buckles. Never having used that type of buckle before was not in any way a detriment. It was extremely easy. I read the directions ad was able to use it correctly from the very first attempt! We love it. It's comfortable for our dogs and very easy to secure. I feel so much better knowing the dogs are safely secured when we ride in the car. They love being able to look out the windows, rather than having to ride in their crates in the back of the Odyssey. We were very thankful to AAA for recommending Kurgo. It's an exceptional product, and much better than expected. We definitely recommend it.

The tru-fit enhanced strength harness is a very well made harness. Once you know how the buckles work, it's easy to put on your pet. You don't have to worry about your pet being in your car either, he or she will be safe.

This is the first car harnesses I bought for our two dogs.
They are so sturdy and well made that it was easy to fit it. Our Weimaranner ,who is very reluctant to be hooked to the leash, accepted it immediately and stood while I adjusted it. Great product ! I am looking forward to the trips by car without the fear that our dogs may get hurt due to sudden braking.

We purchased this harness so we could take our bulldog safely on vacation with us -- almost 2500 miles by car. Charley did well since he could turn around, stretch out and not be confined to his plastic crate. The nesting buckles were very easy to use and we were able to adjust this to fit his bulldog body. This is a great product! We also liked the d ring in front that made it simple to use as a walking harness. THANK YOU Kurgo!

After seeing an eye-opening news report that most doggie car harnesses fail the "sled" crash test, I searched and found this harness that didn't fail when tested that way (it was the ONLY one I could find). With 3 dogs, I always knew they should be harnessed or crated in the car but thought they would be uncomfortable or would bark/whine, so I didn't secure them safely. Learning that they probably wouldn't survive a 30mph crash if unrestrained, I ordered these harnesses that same night and haven't driven them anywhere unrestrained again.
The harnesses are surprisingly easy to adjust for a Toy Poodle, squirmy Maltese and bouncy Golden. The latches clip quickly and don't require any hand strength to open or close. The harnesses are lightweight and comfortable in hot summer weather.
My only gripes are that the ends of some of the nylon straps were a little sharp so I had to file & melt them a bit so they weren't scratchy; the sizes run a little small, my 65lb Golden barely fits in a large size; and the tether tends to get twisted on the zip-line....it really needs a swivel clip. Minor complaints.
The price was much less then I expected....but frankly, I would have paid just about any amount to be sure that my dogs will be as safe as possible in a wreck.

I've owned other harnesses over the years. They didn't fit right despite numerous adjustments and my 65-pound mixed breed dog had his way with all of them. Neither did they inspire the confidence I needed regarding my dog's safety.
Such is not the case with Kurgo. It's sturdy yet flexible, has a unique and easy-to-use buckle system...and my dog looks so handsome in the bright red colour! A job well done.
