Keep Fido in his place

Shield that arm rest! We know what it’s like to drive while trying to fend off a furry head; or whole furry body for that matter.  Never mind the beating the front of your car takes, like when you run into the store and come back to find you know who drooling on the steering wheel.

Here is where the Backseat Barrier™ comes in. Super stylish, this cloth barrier attaches to the back of your front seats creating a soft wall between you and Fido…blocking that little space above your center console. He can still sit and peer through the mesh top; you can even reach back for a scratch if necessary. Most importantly this barrier helps to keep you distraction free while driving, and keeps your pup safely out of the front of the car.

Like all of our products, this one is versatile and simple to install and remove. See for yourself how just a tiny bit of separation makes you a better puppy parent and driver.

  • Protects passengers and cargo from roaming dogs
  • Protects dog from launching forward during quick stops
  • No need to remove when passengers or cargo are in backseat
  • Front seat stays clean of dog hair
  • Universal fit for most vehicles from a compact to a SUV (does no accommodate 2 door cars or minivans)
  • Simple installation / removal

  1. Very happy!

Posted by Unknown on 24th May 2013

I'm very pleased with this product. I installed it in my 2002 Ford Focus (removable headrests) in just a few minutes with absolutely no difficulty. It fits very well. My dog is not one to chew or push things over - he needs a visual cue of where his space ends, and this provides it. Not only does it stop him from riding with his paws on the center console or jumping into the front seat, but it also reduces his anxiety and car sickness, an unexpected bonus. Great product.

  2. as a seat divider?

Posted by sleterpunk on 6th Nov 2012

I looking in the internet to see it as a seat divider but nothing nowhere even at the site of the company that produce it....What about that?

  3. Jury still out

Posted by Jan on 3rd Oct 2012

We bought this to help restrain our golden retriever who has some anxiety when traveling. First the barrier was difficult to attach as the headrests in our Yukon XL are not removable and the straps are not long enough to reach as directions suggest for alternative installation. Second, the barrier does not reach to the floor so the dog can crawl underneath. We had to place a bag between the back of the console and the bottom of restraint. I would like a more positive resolution. Also the plastic latches for the straps seem too lightweight. Pictures show all metal hardware.

  4. doesn't fit like it's supposed to?

Posted by Kelly on 1st Oct 2012

Hi - I purchased the Kurgo seat barrier through DoggyLoot and we spent nearly an hour yesterday trying to fit it into our 4-door car. Our headrests are detachable, but they are way too far apart for the instructions using the detachable head rest to work. Your head rests literally have to be right next to each other for it to work this way. We tried installing it using the fixed headrest instructions and we kinda sorta got it installed, but it's not as tight and fitted as the photos and video lead us to believe. Our dogs could easily push through it or jump over it. The photos show it high and the way we had to install it, our little one can jump right over it. Can you help please, Kurgo?

    Hello Kelly,

Sorry to hear that you are having issues installing the backseat barrier. I sounds like it would be helpful to give us a call or watch the installation video located on our site (see below). There shouldn't be any issues installing the barrier in most vehicles, it is designed to fit from a mini to a suburban. Please contact us for help.

  5. New Model Much Improved

Posted by David on 22nd May 2012

We have owned the previous model for a number of years and have experienced some of the problems others have mentioned, namely overstretched elastic and broken plastic hardware. While I haven't had the new version long enough to comment on the elastic, the metal hardware is a definite improvement.
Installation is straightforward, but a little more labor intensive than the video would indicate. The bottom straps are the issue. The new model has better hardware, but it was difficult to find an anchor point on my Lexus RX power seats.
Finally, keeping the top part of the barrier upright and rigid takes some adjustment, but the stronger hardware should make it long lasting.

  6. Sagging?

Posted by Rayna on 16th Nov 2011

It would be much better if it stood up straight and high instead of sagging and allowing my pups to try and jump over it. Wish they made something stronger for the average sedan.

  7. confusing

Posted by Saab Lover on 12th Jun 2011

I bought this product from a Saab website (for $19 more than it is listed here I assumed that it would fit my car, especially since it came from a website specializing in it. The directions didn't make sense, and I had trouble making the product fit. I am going to try to return it.

    Kurgo Response:
    Dear Saab Lover,

I'm sorry to hear that you had issues installing the Backseat Barrier into your car. About a year ago we made some major modifications to the Backseat Barrier to simplify the installation process and at the same time removed a few features that people just weren't using (backseat separator) and in the process were able to reduce our price. Based on your frustration and the cost difference it sounds like you purchased an older version of our barrier. If you give us a call we would be happy to help you set up your current barrier or swap out yours for a newer one.

  8. BSB Instructions?

Posted by Student - DB on 3rd Apr 2011

Not sure if mine was the only package that contained no instructions or not but they would have been useful. If not at least to be able to find instructions for installation on this site would have been nice. Time wasted, not sure if it is installed correctly. Hopefully it works.

    Dear DB,

I apologize for any issues that you had with the instructions or lack there of. All of our products should come with a set of English and French Instructions. It must of been an over site on our part when packing your unit. Instructions can also be found on our site in two places, on each product description page is an instructions tab or they can also bee found under support. Please don't hesitate to call us if you have any additional questions or problems.

    Best regards,

    Kitter

  9. AMAZING!

Posted by Jim on 3rd Feb 2011

After the adoption of our puppy, we decided after learning from experience with our previous dog that letting them have full roam of the car was unsafe so we got this in May and it has been a true life saver. Got it for some of my dear friends with pets for Christmas and they were all thrilled with it. Good item if you don't crate in the car.
